Owhiro Bay and Shark Bay still polluted – but all clear for swimming in Lyall Bay

Swimmers at Lyall Bay have been given the all clear after water quality test results came back today. Pollution warning signs were removed after laboratory tests found the water at Lyall Bay was within Ministry of Environment marine standards.

But the Wellington City Council is urging people to stay clear of the water at Shark Bay, on the eastern side of Evans Bay, and Owhiro Bay for another 24 hours after water sample testing returned contamination levels above Ministry of Environment recommended levels. Read more »

14-year-old cyclist in hospital after being hit by car in Lower Hutt

A 14 year old boy was struck by a vehicle on Waiwhetu Road in Lower Hutt at about 4.30 yesterday afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper said the cyclist was treated by ambulance on the scene and later airlifted to Wellington Hospital. He is in a serious but stable condition. Read more »

Emergency services are in attendance at a crash involving a truck and three cars on State Highway 2 just north of Otane in Hawkes Bay.

It is understood that a number of people are trapped in vehicles and there are several injuries reported. Read more »

Seventeen-year-old killed in Wairoa crash

At around 7 am this morning, there was a fatal car crash in Putere Road, Raupunga, Wairoa. A 17 year old female lost her life as a result of the collision. Police are carrying out investigations in relation to the crash. Read more »

Monday traffic at a standstill on SH1 at Raumati

Police are appealing for patience from commuters on State Highway 1 in the Raumati area.

Local police advise there are delays for traffic heading north. Traffic is at a stand still between Waterfall Road and Poplar Avenue.
