We were in a huge traffic jam as soon as we got on the motorway at Raumati at 3.30pm and we were all diverted over the Hill Road at Paekakariki.
It was a total shambles. Hundreds of cars were bumper to bumper on BOTH sides of the hill road from Paekakariki to Pauatahanui, and then along the coast road to Plimmerton. And going back over Haywards towards the Hutt, cars coming from the Hutt were also bumper to bumper for miles along the road trying to get back to the coast.
Had there been any kind of emergency on the Hill Road it would have been impossible for anyone to have got help.
Just showed how completely vulnerable Wellington is when the only highway into our Capital City was closed for 90 minutes. It took us hours to get back.
