Hospital Board reports two-thirds of its staff feel positive

Over two thirds of Capital & Coast District Health Board staff feel positively engaged according to their recent engagement survey.

The staff engagement survey took place between 20 March to 10 April. A total of 2,999 clinical and non-clinical staff participated in the survey, which is over half of the DHB’s workforce.

“We wanted to know what our staff think about working here. We can’t make our DHB the best place to work if we don’t know what to change,” says Debbie Chin, chief executive.

Staff were asked a range a questions about working at the district health board – from development opportunities and leadership to work environment and communication.

“The results allow us to move forward with confidence, with insight into the areas of strength and the areas of focus for improvement.”

The areas requiring the most focus for improvement are:

Supporting staff to cope with the demands of their work
Bullying and unwarranted behaviour in our workplace
Quality communication
Development opportunities for all our professions.

The DHB will use this year’s survey results as a base line for future biannual surveys.

The key results from the survey are as follows:
2,999 staff participated in the survey, over half of the workforce at the DHB.
69% of staff indicated they feel positively engaged with the DHB
68% of staff indicated that they feel involved in decision and actions that affect them.
70% of staff responded that they feel motivated in their work.
65% of staff agreed or strongly agreed that they would recommend the DHB and the work that it does
83% of staff intend to stay at the DHB for at least another year.

    As it was not an anonymous survey they cannot tell their DHB that they are not positive (and may be suffering from depression) .
    And what of the patients?

    Only half of CCDHB staff participated in this engagement survey. This fact speaks volumes.
