Man dies from critical injuries on motorway

Police were this morning reporting what they called “an incident” in the northbound lanes of State Highway 1 at the Mungavin overbridge.

They said a man had been found in a critical condition. The man later died from his injuries.

Traffic heading northbound out of Wellington was delayed and diversions were put in place.

At 8.50, the NZ Transport Agency reported that both northbound lanes of SH1 had been closed from the Mungavin on-ramp to the Mungavin off-ramp.

The lanes were reopened by about 10am.

There were also delays this morning for commuters on the Kapiti line. At 7.15 MetLink said there were “major delays” caused by a power outage. Two hours later it said services had been restored, but delays were continuing.
