Woman charged with kidnapping in Lower Hutt after hostage “incident”

Following an incident in Kings Crescent, Lower Hutt this morning, Police have charged a 25-year-old woman with kidnapping, threatening to kill, and possessing an offensive weapon.

The woman is in custody and is to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court tomorrow.

Both she and a 47-year-old woman, who are related, were treated in Hutt Hospital following the incident.

This treatment was for superficial injuries sustained during the entry and arrest procedure undertaken by the Armed Offenders Squad.

Police were reporting this morning that an “incident” in Lower Hutt had been resolved.
They didn’t explain the incident. However they said a 25-year-old woman had been taken into custody. And another woman was being treated by Ambulance staff for minor injuries.

Buses were diverted during the incident, which was in Kings Crescent.

RadioNZ reports that the incident – which lasted 12 hours – involved a hostage and a standoff with armed police.
