Missing 66-year-old (with dementia) found safe and well in Johnsonville

Wellington Police are very pleased to report that the 66-year-old man missing in Johnsonville since yesterday has been found safe and well.

He was found at a residential property in west Johnsonville, as a result of information from a member of the public.

The search team are very grateful for the support and assistance provided by the Johnsonville community during the search.

Wellington Police continue to search this evening for Graeme Penny, who has been missing from his Johnsonville rest home since around 4.30pm yesterday.

Mr Penny is believed to be wearing blue/black trackpants, a blue/black tshirt, and blue shoes. He usually wears glasses, but may not have them with him.

With the weather in the Wellington region deteriorating, the police are growing increasingly concerned for Mr Penny’s wellbeing.

We would like to thank all those members of the public who have contacted us today with possible sightings of Mr Penny. Please continue to keep an eye out for Mr Penny tonight if you are in the Johnsonville area, and call Police immediately on 04 381 2000 if you see someone fitting his description.

We also ask that Johnsonville residents check / re-check any outdoor buildings on their property, in case Mr Penny has sought shelter.

Police are searching in Wellington this morning for missing man Graham Penny. The 66-year-old left his Johnsonville rest home around 4:30pm yesterday afternoon and has not returned.

Police and his family are very concerned for his safety.

Police made enquiries overnight to locate Mr Penny, who suffers from dementia, but unfortunately had no luck. We are this morning searching in the area around the rest home and in other parts across Wellington and Lower Hutt. We ask that members of the public keep an eye out for Mr Penny and contact us immediately via 111 if they find him.
