Pātaka closing its galleries for four months

Press Release – Pataka Art and Museum
Pātaka’s public galleries, Helen Smith Community Meeting Room and Performing Art Studio will be temporarily closed from 22 January until 26 May for building maintenance and upgrades to our community hire facility spaces.

The library, Kaizen Café, Pātaka’s gift shop the Toi Store, atrium space and Bottle Creek and Rangituhi Meeting Rooms will remain open and available to the public.

The Bottle Creek Community Gallery will be open for the first stage of the building maintenance work, but will close from March to late May.

During the closure period we are delighted to present a series of public installation works by award-winning New Zealand artist Shannon Novak, from the 22 January through to 16 May 2018. Shannon’s interactive artworks will be in Pātaka’s main atrium space and at other sites around the city including Cannons Creek Library and Porirua City centre. During this period we will also be working with Performance Arcade to present a weekend of performance art – details to be announced via our website soon.

Pātaka’s main galleries will reopen on 27 May with new exhibitions including the survey Dragons & Taniwha – Owen Mapp: 50 years an artist carver; the new permanent social history exhibition Whiti te Ra – The Ngāti Toa Story; and work by Australian artist Danie Mellor: From Right to Ritual.
