Buses replace trains after heat causes problems with track alignment

Today’s heat caused track alignment problems on the Kapiti line for more than two hours from 5pm.

MetLink advised at 5pm:

Due to heat misalignment on a section of track south of Paekakariki, all train services on the Kapiti Line are replaced by buses between Plimmerton and Paekakariki. Track maintenance crew are assessing the issue. Expect delays on buses arriving, due to traffic on the roads.

But then at 7pm:

Services are to resume on the Kapiti Line after the delay caused by heat misalignment to a section of track south of Paekakariki. Some services may not be running to schedule due to the increased number of trains north of Paekakariki needing to get back into Wellington.

The next scheduled service to depart Waikanae will be the 7:30pm service.

We apologise for the delays.
