Man arrested, charged with stealing cash from Porirua store

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the Christmas Eve robbery of a shop in Porirua’s Mungavin Avenue. He is to appear in court in Porirua today.
Police are thanking members of the public for information which led to the arrest.
“We appreciate those people who have come forward with information, which helped lead to a quick arrest,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Martin. “We take this sort of offending extremely seriously, and we hope the arrest goes some way to helping reassure the victim and the community.”

Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Christmas Eve at a shop on Mungavin Avenue in Porirua.
At around 2pm a man entered the store and punched the manager behind the counter causing him to fall to the ground. The man then stole an amount of cash. The victim suffered moderate injuries to his face.
Police have made a number of inquiries including a scene examination and are now appealing for the information from the public.
The man, as pictured, was wearing a red t-shirt and black jeans with a red bandana tucked in to the waistline. The man has a number of tattoos on his arms and curly hair.
