PHOTOS: Fire alarm at Readings – cinemas evacuated for 25 minutes

There was a fire alarm at Reading Cinemas in Courtenay Place this morning.

Two fire engines arrived 15 minutes after the siren started to sound.

The multiplex’s ten cinemas weren’t crowded. But everyone was evacuated on to the footpath.

The shops and foodstores, including MacDonalds, were also emptied of their staff and customers.

It was a long wait. The building’s fire siren kept sounding for 25 minutes, five minutes after the fire engines had gone.

After the alarm was turned off, customers were allowed back into the building. They were told that all the movies would resume at the point the screenings had been interrupted. But for those who didn’t want to wait, there was the offer of refunds, or vouchers for future showings.
