Less fuel, less noise – new flight paths for Wellington Airport

News from RNZ
Four new flight paths for planes coming into Wellington International Airport will be trialled next year.

Satellite navigation technology has enabled the new routes, two from the south and two from the north.

Airways New Zealand manager of air traffic operations Andy Boyd said the new flight paths were shorter and meant planes would use less fuel and make less noise.

The trial would allow the stakeholders to give feedback on the routes. It was important that both people living below the flight paths and pilots could have their say, Mr Boyd said.

Similar navigation technology is already in use in Auckland, Queenstown, and Christchurch.

Yep – should be able to fly directly over Kapiti now that AirNZ has abandoned Paraparaumu.
