Petition seeks to stop closure of Newtown Postshop

News from Newtown Residents Assn
Rhona Carson, President of Newtown Residents’ Association, presented a petition to Parliament calling for a moratorium on the closure of the Newtown Postshop and Kiwibank to the Rongotai Member of Parliament Paul Eagle at his Newtown office today.

Paul Eagle has agreed to present it to the House of Representatives.

“We aim to have our case for the retention of the Postshop and Kiwibank, and the need for a moratorium on all further closures, heard by a Select Committee,” said Amanda Barber, a spokesperson for the Newtown Residents’ Association Sub Group which organised and promoted the petition.

The petition was originally addressed to Winston Peters, Minister of State Owned Enterprises. The group are still waiting to hear from Mr Peters but taking this additional step allows for a wider examination of the issues.

Well done, and fingers and toes crossed and to hope they listen. Where I live we do not even have post boxes for our mail. There used to be one outside our local dairy where we could buy stamps, but now we have to go by car or bus to the nearest outlets, one of which closes at 9 am! and two others at 2 pm. A little further on lucky to get one open till 6 pm.
