MetLink is not ‘experiencing’ cancelled services. Customers are experiencing cancelled services. Metlink is responsible and should sort it out.

While Metlink is your provider, they are also the customer, so they experience it too. Perhaps not as personally but with just as little leverage. That is, how would they sort it out?

It has been written often that the old contracts didn’t have a easy lever over the operator for cancellations and in any case, the old operator (NZ Bus) can’t really do much either. They can’t hire new staff to make up the shortfall (and then sack them all in two months). Even with the best will in the world I can’t see how Metlink has any useful lever over NZ Bus the outgoing incumbent, nor over NZ Bus’s staff making ‘full use’ of their sick leave.

A year of pain for nine years of ‘gain’ but did GWRC ever factor in the pain? Nope…

The only losers are the Wellington public. GWRC couldn’t give a damn as long as they think they are balancing their books; there’s nothing like false economy!!
