Police need help with investigation of Wainui builder’s murder

News from NZ Police
Hutt Valley Police are renewing their appeal for assistance from the public in relation to the death of Paul TeHiko earlier this year.

The 40-year-old builder died of a gunshot wound at his Wainuiomata address on Jack Vaughan Grove on 7 March.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears says a team of investigators have remained dedicated to the investigation but Police still need the public’s help to provide closure for Mr TeHiko’s family.

“We have narrowed down the time of death to between 9.45 pm and 10.15 pm on Wednesday 07 March.

“Perhaps someone has seen a vehicle in the area of upper Wise Street, near Jack Vaughan Drive, around this time. If you saw anything suspicious or saw anyone out of place at this time we need to speak to you urgently,” he says.

Anyone who has any information is urged to contact Police or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“We continue to explore the possibility that more than one offender was responsible.

“I’m convinced that there are people out there who know what happened and are wrestling with their conscience. I urge them to do the right thing.”

Police continue to support the TeHiko family who are deeply affected by the murder of a father, son and friend.

Statement from the family of Paul TeHiko, attributable to Mike TeHiko

I believe there are some people in the community who know who killed Paul. While we are extremely grateful for all the support we have received from so many kind and caring people since our tragic loss, we are still pleading for answers. We just can’t understand why. Paul’s young son is particularly upset.

We are urging the community to come forward with any information that they may have to help hold the perpetrators accountable and bring our family some closure. We are still reeling from Paul’s cold blooded murder and find it distressing to know the persons responsible are still out in the community.
