Tourists robbed of cash, cellphone and luggage

News from NZ Police
Police would like to hear from anyone with information about a robbery of two tourists south of Turangi yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred about 4.30pm on Atirau Road, near the Turangi Golf Course.

The two male tourists had their vehicle stopped and were threatened by three men.

Their vehicle was searched and they were forced to hand over cash, a cell phone and luggage.

The offenders are described as Maori, two of whom had facial tattoos, and were driving an older style red vehicle.

“Turangi is a proud community that welcomes and relies on tourism,” says Detective Sergeant Andy Livingstone. “Members of the community who are aware of this robbery are upset and very disappointed that this has happened.”
