High School students targeting waste, promoting recycling

News from WHS
Wellington High School students are making a difference for the environment with a new group targeting waste management and promoting recycling at the school.

To raise awareness of the issues among students, the Roots and Shoots environmental group are holding a Zero Waste Awareness Week at the school from September 10 to 14.

The group has been successful recently introducing a recycling system into the school.

Wellington City Council staff will attend the event to help educate students on how to use the new bins and help reduce waste.

Other speakers during the week include Associate Minister for the Environment Eugenie Sage, former Prime Minister and Minister for the Environment Sir Geoffrey Palmer, as well as representatives from Wellington Zoo and Zealandia bird sanctuary.

Students will also get the chance to learn how to compost, make natural body care products and reusable Boomerang bags, and learn more about menstrual cups.
