Motorcyclist named after fatal crash on motorway near Johnsonville

Police today released the name of the motorcyclist who died in a collision with a car that was travelling in the wrong direction on State Highway 1, near Johnsonville, on Saturday 29 December. He was Samuel Trent Jackson-Seligman-Lemaire, 25, of Wellington.

A 25-year-old Wellington man was killed this morning when the motorcycle he was riding north on State Highway 1 was struck by a motorcar travelling south in the northbound lanes near Johnsonville.

Wellington District Crime Squad, who are investigating the incident, have charged a 72-year-old woman with careless driving causing death.

She will be released to appear in the Wellington District Court in the new year.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with any information is asked to contact Police at the Wellington Crime Squad on 04-381-2000 or contact their local Police station.

Fatigue is a factor in this tragic incident and Police urge people to travel safe over the holiday period.

A motorcyclist is dead after a collision with a car that was reported to be going the wrong way on the motorway at Johnsonville. Police were called to the crash around 3am. They said the motorcyclist died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Police are investigating reports the car was being driven south in a northbound lane, and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

The two northbound lanes and one southbound land were closed while investigations continued. The Transport Agency was detouring northbound drivers via the Johnsonville off-ramp.
