Post-mortem follows discovery of woman’s body in lagoon at Frank Kitts Park

A post-mortem examination is taking place in Wellington today to determine the cause of the death of Sarah Mayne, whose body was found on Saturday in the lagoon at Frank Kitts Park.

Further inquiries are being undertaken today in relation to the unexplained death.

Police would still like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything unusual around the lagoon 9.00pm on Friday to around 3.00am Saturday.

Police are still treating the death yesterday of a woman whose body was found in Whairepo Lagoon near Frank Kitts Park as unexplained. She was 48-year old Sarah Pauline Louise Mayne of Wellington.

Her next-of-kin and family have been informed and Police are working towards establishing the cause, as well as events that led to her death.

Wellington Police are seeking information from people who were around the wooden boardwalks on the city side of Whairepo Lagoon from 9.00pm on Friday to around 3.00am on Saturday. This area is between Frank Kitts Park and Te Papa on the Wellington Waterfront.

News from NZ Police – February 16
The body of a woman has been found in Whairepo Lagoon, near Frank Kitts Park in Wellington.

Police were called to the lagoon at 10.55am.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the woman’s death are under way.

Police are treating the death as unexplained.

They are working with witnesses and advising next-of-kin.

A local Kaumatua performed a blessing of the Whairepo Lagoon scene at 4pm and Police are likely to stand-down from that area shortly.
