Thirty Wellington people, fed up with the city’s slow progress in building protected bike lanes, built their own bike lane in Featherston Street this morning.
Cycling Action Network spokesperson Patrick Morgan says: “We love the protected bike lanes that the Wellington City Council has built, but progress is far too slow. So we literally took action into our own hands. If the city won’t protect us, we will protect our own.
People power: today we opened a new #peopleprotected bike lane in Wellington. When will @WgtnCC build us a proper one on Featherston St? @CycleAwareWgtn @PeopleProtected pic.twitter.com/XfitapP8Jg

“Join us as we build our own people-protected bike lane on Featherston Street in Wellington. Meet on the corner of Featherston and Ballance Streets. Let’s show the Council we need them to move much faster on building safe and healthy streets. We’ll all be better off.”
