Crash closes Mt Victoria Tunnel for almost 3 hours

The Mt Victoria Tunnel was closed for almost three hours this morning, after a single-vehicle crash near the tunnel entrance in Paterson Street.

The crash was reported soon after 6am. The DomPost said two people were injured and one was in a critical condition. Police said the person had been trapped in the vehicle that had crashed.

Traffic was detoured through Newtown or Evans Bay, with much congestion. Metlink advised that it expected delays for its buses.

Two hours after the crash, the tunnel footpath was reopened for pedestrians and cyclists, but the tunnel remained closed till just before 9am.

Very very slowly the authorities are clearing roads after accidents. Three-hour tunnel closures are just too slow .

Everything to do with Wellington is too slow: Fixing the Town Hall, Fixing infrastructure, Fixing Civic Square, Fixing public transport, etc etc etc
Apart from vanity projects – full steam ahead there.
