Train services between Porirua and Waikanae were suspended tonight because of a power outage between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki. Metlink is blaming the outage on “extreme weather conditions.”

It said there would be limited bus replacements between Porirua and Waikanae. The bus replacements will not be running to timetable.

As a result of the power outage, Metlink advised:
The 5.18pm service from WELL to WAIK was held at Pukerua Bay.
The 5.35pm service from WELL to WAIK was held at Plimmerton.
The 5.55pm service from WELL to WAIK was held at Porirua.

Also:
The 5.41pm service from WAIK to WELL was held at Paekakariki.
The 6.05pm service from WAIK to WELL was held at Waikanae.

And not only the weather:
The 6.14pm service from Wellington to Waikanae was held at Tawa due to a trespasser on the line.

Services on the Kapiti line didn’t start again till about 8pm.

At 6pm, NZTA reported flooding on the southbound lane of SH1 between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay. It warned drivers to take care. At 7pm and 8.30pm, it said the flooding was still on the road.

And at 7.40, NZTA reported that a slip had closed the Paekakariki Hill Road – in both directions.
