News from Footnote
Footnote New Zealand Dance and Ross McCormack present ‘ The Clearing ’ at the Opera House on October 24.

Footnote New Zealand Dance presents their first full-length work since 2016 with ‘The Clearing’ . Created by Canterbury-born choreographer Ross McCormack, ‘ The Clearing ’ takes inspiration from our carved-out
spaces both natural and designed. McCormack received the prestigious Creative New Zealand Choreographic Fellowship, and a 2017 NZ Arts Foundation Laureate.

Footnote New Zealand Dance is the country’s longest running contemporary dance company, pushing the envelope for over 30 years.

‘ The Clearing ’ features an epic set designed and built by McCormack to create an otherworldly terrain where reality exists as a mere whisper. ‘ The Clearing ’ buzzes with mysterious energy, reverberating the souls of the dancers, the viewers and the environment surrounding them all.

‘ The Clearing ’ is an original piece not to be missed. Two New Zealand stalwarts of creativity offer a moving escape for lovers of dance, design, modern art and immersive experiences.
