Man charged with murder in Foxton after death of shooting victim

A 47-year-old man injured in a shooting in Foxton yesterday died in hospital today. He was Joeroa Rangitawhi Te Rupe, of Foxton. A 46-year-old man arrested earlier today has been charged with murder in relation to the death.

The man will appear in Palmerston North District Court tomorrow.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested following a firearms incident in Foxton yesterday morning. During the incident a man sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police continue to make enquiries into the circumstances of the shooting. A scene examination is underway and is expected to continue overnight.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this. Police thank the public for their support while the matter was resolved safely.

Police continue their efforts to locate an offender who was involved in a firearms incident yesterday morning in Foxton. An injured person remains in a critical condition.

A firearm believed to have been used has been recovered.

Police are responding to a firearms incident at an address on Main Street in Foxton, where a person has sustained serious injuries.

A number of schools have gone into lockdown as a precautionary measure.

People are advised to avoid the area.
