Passengers evacuated after threat on interislander ferry

Cordons are being stood down following police enquiries after a reported threat on the Kaitaki interisland ferry.

Police were called to the ferry in Wellington and confirmed there was no suspicious item on-board and no cause for concern.

Interislander were working to move passengers to their destinations and the ferry had departed for Picton by noon.

Enquiries are continuing as to the identity of the person who made the threat.

Police are responding to a report received at 9:05am regarding an item of concern on an Interislander ferry which departed Wellington at 9am. The ship has returned to dock in Wellington, and passengers are being evacuated while Police undertake enquiries on-board.

Cordons will be in place in the Aotea Quay area around the ferry terminal and people are advised to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with.
