And there’s me thinking it was for MPs to come outside and play on after a session of childish antics in the House.

A play area does nothing for eliminating poverty. They could take action to help alleviate some of the worst poverty in one term, as the Ministry of Social Development are caught up in punitive actions and they don’t provide the poor with their full and complete entitlements .

You have gotta think that Parliament got ripped off. This “playground” essentially a fancy slide and bunch of balance beams, cost $500K.
Just down the Road in Island Bay for $500K, they got “a 5.5 metre-high central climbing tower with a high slide and a 30-metre flying fox. Also accessible play equipment such as a carousel and basket swing.”

greenwelly – It’s more like we the taxpayers got ripped off by Parliament. Plus parliament turns the ripoff into a fake “poverty action” PR piece.
Can’t afford housing? Well take your children to parliament and play with Mallard on the slide. An overpriced slide in Parliament grounds does nothing to reduce the poverty that whole families (not just the children) are feeling in NZ.

Crazy eh greenwelly? You could buy/build a house for that kind of money. I seem to recall the children’s garden in the Botanic Garden costing an equally mind boggling sum. Somewhere somebody is clipping the ticket big time.

The kids’ garden at the botanic garden could have been great but instead it is average. The highlight being the pump and that was broken the last few times we went there. As for this slide, I cannot help but think it is there for photo ops.
