Police release description of man who stabbed woman in Central Park

Wellington police tonight released a description of the man who stabbed a woman yesterday in Central Park.

He is described as in his 30s, 173-176cm tall, with brown skin, dark eyes and short dark hair.

The injured woman was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, and has since been released.

Anyone with information about the attacker is urged to call Police on 105. Police would also like to hear from anyone with CCTV footage of Central Park or the surrounding areas, including Brooklyn Road, upper Willis Street, Webb Street and Aro Street.

A woman was stabbed in Central Park in Brooklyn late this morning. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say it is believed the attacker, a man, was unknown to her.

Late this afternoon, the man had not been found.

Cordons were in place around the park while a scene examination took place.

RadioNZ says the armed offenders squad was called to the park after the attack.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the assault, or saw anything suspicious in the Central Park area, to contact Police on 105.

Police remind the public, particularly people walking alone, to be aware of their surroundings and call 111 immediately if they see anything suspicious.
