Missing swimmer’s body found in Whanganui River

A body has been discovered in the Whanganui River – police believe it is the man who went missing yesterday afternoon.

Police had been searching for a 24-year-old Israeli man who failed to surface at the popular Mosquito Point swimming hole near Upokongaro yesterday.

The body was found today in the Mosquito Point area. It is yet to be formally identified.

A rāhui has been placed on part of the river.

Police were called around 1.20pm.

Search & Rescue, with Coastguard and a rescue helicopter, are working to find the missing person.
