Car fire blocks traffic on SH1 at Pukerua Bay

Traffic on State Highway 1 was delayed this afternoon by a car fire near Airlie Road at Pukerua Bay.

The fire was reported by the NZ Transport Agency at 2.20. Fifteen minutes later it said traffic was blocked in both directions. Police confirmed that both lanes were blocked.

But then stop-go traffic management was introduced, till the damaged vehicle had been removed.

The highway was cleared and fully open at 3.30.
