Newtown artists are looking forward to again welcoming people into their studios at this weekend’s Open Studios event.

For three days from Saturday, 17 Newtown-based artists will be opening their studio doors to the public for no charge.

With everything from painting to screen printing and pottery to choose from, people can watch the artists at work, learn about the process behind each creation, and buy directly from the artists.

Anna Woolhouse, of Veronica Design Life, said it was an opportunity to connect with the community and other artists, after an isolated 2020.

“We are coming out from the shadows of the pandemic,” she said.

As a “proud Newtownion,” Anna is looking forward to sharing her creative process and getting inspiration from visitors.

“I’m influenced by the community discourse. My work is often a response to someone else’s art.”

She has noticed the public has been more supportive of buying local since the pandemic.

“People are more conscious of keeping it local and challenging consumerism.”

Newtown Open Studios: Saturday 20th – Monday 22nd March, 2pm-7pm, free.
