Death of founding director of children’s theatre

Tribute from Capital E
Yesterday we sadly lost a friend with the death of renowned theatre director Peter Wilson.

You will hear many wonderful things about Peter and they are all true. He was kind, generous with his time, inspiring, and held a strong vision for children’s theatre.

Peter was the founding director of Capital E’s National Theatre for Children in 1997 and created enduring works like ‘Songs of the Sea’, ‘Tale of a Dog’, ‘Boxes’ and ‘Seasons’. He will be missed, as an important part of the New Zealand theatre community but also as our friend and collaborator.

We feel greatly privileged to have known and worked with Peter, most recently on the 2021 remount of ‘Seasons’. Our team has had the opportunity these past few weeks to work with Peter; learning the art of puppetry from one of the best.

His legacy continues with his beautiful theatre shows, enjoyed by thousands of children across Aotearoa and around the world.
