Wellington feature films at top of NZ box office
Wellington.Scoop
Wellington director Taika Waititi’s new feature film Boy has held its number one position at the New Zealand box office for a fifth consecutive week.
In its first five weeks it has been seen by more than 500,000 people, and its gross box office is more than $5.2million. It will soon exceed the $5.5million achieved over eight weeks by the Disney Alice in Wonderland.
Boy now holds the record of having the fifth largest box office of any New Zealand feature released in this country. It will soon be challenging Whale Rider, which grossed over $6million.
Wellington director Gaylene Preston’s new feature Home By Christmas has also entered the box office charts. It’s in number ten position, after weekend previews on 40 screens.
Its full release began today, throughout the country.
Both features are supported by the New Zealand Film Commission.

As an ex-kiwi I’m appalled that you still offer knighthoods. This Jackson dude should know better. It’s like a time warp that continues down there in kiwiland. Quaint and ridiculous.
