Man arrested, charged with murder in Johnsonville

At approximately 11.55pm on Saturday, Wellington Police were called to the Mobil Mart Service Station in Johnsonville where it was reported that a woman was being attacked in the forecourt by a male and was seriously injured.

Police rushed to the scene arriving shortly afterward to find a woman lying in the forecourt with significant injuries.

The male person involved who was known to the deceased was being restrained by witnesses until police arrived.

Despite efforts by both Ambulance and Fire Service Staff, the women died at the scene.

A 48 year old Porirua man has been arrested and charged with the woman’s murder and will be held in custody to appear at the Wellington District Court on Monday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell of Wellington Police said that a full homicide investigation has now been launched.

“Our role is to fully investigate this death to clearly establish the facts and background leading up to this death. This includes identifying and speaking with all the witnesses to this attack of which there were a number.”
