Container explodes in flames on the Wellington waterfront

There was an explosion on the Wellington waterfront early this morning. It woke people throughout the city, including guests at the Century City Hotel in Tory Street.
Radio New Zealand reports that the city’s port company Centreport says the explosion occurred at 5am when a container was being fumigated.
The Fire Service was called to fight a hazardous fire, which has since been put out.
A full inquiry has been ordered, as Centreport says it doesn’t know what caused the explosion.
A car was among the contents of the container which exploded.
