There is nothing like a Dame

One of the first people to receive an honour at Government House in Wellington this week was the best-selling cookery book writer Alison Holst, who is now Dame Alison. And one day after her investiture, the supermarket closest to Government House was celebrating the honour.

There were several congratulatory messages, displayed just inside the front door of the Newtown New World, just before the liquor section.

This one was taped on the lid of a plastic box containing Bhuja Mix (Hot). But the red price tag raised some confusion about whether or not this is one of the products promoted by the new Dame’s “Alison’s Pantry” brand.

Dame Alison, who was honoured for services to the food industry, was among 23 people on the list for the first of six investiture ceremonies at the refurbished Government House. She’s likely to be the only one of them whose honour is celebrated in a New World supermarket.
