Focus on safety: Wainuiomata Hill road to have new surface and new drainage
Press Release – Hutt City Council
Mayor Ray Wallace has welcomed new road maintenance work being carried out on the Wainuiomata Hill.
“The scheduled maintenance work will keep Wainuiomata residents safe on the road through re-surfacing and installation of sub soil drainage. New high friction surfacing will also be part of the work.
”High friction surfacing has played an important part in reducing road accidents on the hill by 80 per cent,” the Mayor said.
Work started this week and will cover three sections of road on either side of the hill road. The contractors, Transfield Services Ltd, are expected to complete the work by the end of March, depending on the weather.
Mayor Wallace said special attention is being given to ensuring smooth traffic flow and work will be suspended during peak traffic times.
“We want to ensure the hill road continues to be safe and kept in good repair while minimising traffic disruption,” he said.

You might want to focus on the carpark of the Wainuiomata shopping mall. A story was featured on Fair Go a few months back. Why has no action been taken, Ray Wallace?
How about adding a walkway/cycleway on the same side of the road. It’s ridiculous is it that people have to cross an 80km/h 4 lane road at the top.
