Stadium announces new master plan – four year project to cost $29m

Media release from Regional Stadium Trust
The Wellington Regional Stadium Trust is to announce new developments for the Westpac Stadium in a ‘Master Plan’ developed to ensure it continues to set the benchmark for stadia in this country.

The phased project work will commence as early as this year with a costed budget of $29 million in expenditure to be spent on the Stadium over the coming four years. The initial work will ensure that significant work is finished before the two World Cups scheduled for 2015.

At a briefing on Friday, the Trust will outline: the drivers for the plan, the broad principles agreed for its objectives; the design brief; costings; and timelines. And most importantly what the patrons, players, codes, event organisers and the media can expect from the plans to enhance their experience of the Stadium going forward.

Joining the Chair and the CEO of the Trust at the briefing will be Richard Breslin from international architects Populous, who have developed the Master Plan for the Westpac Stadium. Populous were the original designers of Westpac Stadium and have also been involved in the design of the new Wembley Stadium and Olympic Stadium in London and the World Cup upgrade of Eden Park.
