HVCA and Fast Forward Theatre Company are currently bringing free theatre to Naenae. A week long workshop programme of Playback Theatre sessions for a group of 15 – 18 yr olds is running to great effect and will be culminating in a koha performance on Saturday 6th October at Treadwell St Hall at 2pm. This project really shows the magic that art and culture can create, using local young people’s stories to find out, express and reflect what is happening in our locale. The performance will use the same forms of asking the audience for stories which our youth will then perform back to us. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the talent, get up and go and bravery of our young people and our local stories.

We are building community and positive group dynamics through storytelling and shared experiences with youth. We are working together using theatrical games and practices to promote respect, empathy and tolerance. We are learning the forms of Playback Theatre and practicing them within the group to express each member’s personal stories. This programme provides a special place to focus and develop skills in theatrical work that translate into a working dialogue for everyday life. This project gives voice, fosters reflection and deepens understanding of new or different perspectives.

Claire Hewitt, who has over ten years of theatre devising, directing and acting experience, is delighted to be working with a new community and is looking forward to seeing the local community be proud of their kids and see what they can do.
