Tararua Shield matches this weekend

Press Release – Cricket Wellington
The Tararua Shield competition moves into the second round this weekend with fixtures taking place in Wellington.

Wellington City will host Wairarapa at Kilbirnie Park on Sunday and the hosts will be looking to get their campaign underway after their match was abandoned against Manawatu earlier this month. The City bowlers started strongly to have Manawatu on the ropes at 45-5 but the weather eventually kicked in forcing the game to be called off. City has made a couple of changes for their match against Wairarapa which features the inclusion of Johnsonville bowler Seth Rance. Rance is playing his first season in Wellington and will line up against his former team, that he helped earn a Hawke Cup Challenge last season.

Hutt Valley has named an unchanged line up for their match against Manawatu after beating Wairarapa by 216 runs in their first game. The Hutt boys currently lead the competition and will be looking to secure a finals spot with a win this weekend. A number of the Hutt players are in reasonable form, with New Zealand Under 19 player Henry Walsh following up his 81 ball 123 against Wairarapa with a century for Taita in club cricket.

Both games start at 10:30am and the forecast looks promising for a good day’s cricket.
