It must be Christmas: traffic delays between Paekakariki and Paraparaumu

Police this afternoon reported traffic delays north bound between Paekakariki and Paraparaumu.

Motorists were asked to drive to the conditions and expect delays as people leave for their Christmas holidays.

A rescue helicopter was sent across Cook Strait this morning after a diver was injured falling on rocks. in the Marlborough Sounds.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The paramedic was winched onto an outcrop of rocks to attend to the patient, a South Island man in his mid 50s.

After stabilizing an injured leg, they were both winched back into the helicopter. The patient was then flown to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim.
