Round the Bays registrations reach record 4300

Press Release – Round the Bays
Registrations for the AMI Round the Bays fun run are at a new pre-Christmas record of 4,300, eclipsing last year’s tally of 1900 people registered as at 24 December.

Event Director Craig Ireson from Sport Wellington says “this means that the event will likely sell out well before the starter’s gun on Sunday 17 February, despite the event’s capacity being increased by 1000. It’s not just individuals entering, we already have 220 teams, and with each team having an average of 20 members who have yet to register that’s a further 4,000 participants which we are not yet counting in the 4,300” says Ireson.

The 2012 event was the first ever sell out in the event’s long history with over 12,000 people at the start line. Everything is looking good for an even bigger event in 2013 with BBQ sites already sold out and limited number of corporate marquee sites left.

The only statistic which is slightly down on this time last year is the amount raised for the official charity, the Malaghan Institute. The Malaghan Institute is New Zealand’s leading independent medical research institute. So far $2,800 has been raised for their vital work, a long way from the fundraising goal of $50,000. Sport Wellington encourages participants and non-participants alike to support the ‘Run for Research’ by becoming a fundraiser or sponsoring one at www.runforresearch.co.nz.

People who have yet to enter are encouraged to do so soon by going to amiroundthebays.co.nz to ensure their place on the start line on Sunday 17 February.
