Missing for two wet and windy nights in the Tararuas – searchers find lone runner

Police announced this morning that searchers have found Alastair Shelton, the Wellington runner who had been missing for two nights in the Tararua Ranges. They say he was “a bit cold” but otherwise fine.

A search continued today for a Wellington man who didn’t return from a run yesterday in the Tararuas. Ten search and rescue teams are now involved, in weather that’s described as wet, windy and cold.

News from NZ Police – December 29
Masterton Police Search & Rescue are asking for any members of the public who have been tramping or walking in or around the Holdsworth Jumbo Circuit Track in the Tararua Ranges west of Masterton today to get in contact with them. Police are looking for 33 year old Alastair Shelton who went running on Saturday morning and has not returned.

Alastair is described as 6 foot tall and of slim build, short brown hair wearing singlet, black shorts, lyric tights, bright green running shoes and a small back pack. It is believed he was running alone.
