Pedestrian killed, hit by taxi in Levin

A pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a taxi early this morning on Hokio Beach Road, Levin.

The taxi had been travelling west with a fare on board. The pedestrian, a 29 year old Levin man, had been walking west.

The taxi collided with the pedestrian, causing fatal injuries. The pedestrian died at the scene. He had been walking in a rural area with little street lighting and wearing dark clothing.

The driver of the taxi suffered minor injuries and did not need hospitalisation.

The crash is being investigated by Police staff including the Serious Crash Analyst. The vehicle will be inspected and the scene analysed to determine the cause of the crash.

There were no other vehicles involved.

The dead man’s name will be released once the next of kin have been notified.
