Palmerston North Police have found the body of a 27 year-old Feilding man who went missing while swimming at Himatangi Beach yesterday afternoon. They found the body of Jarrett Simeon this morning at 5:50am approximately 100 metres up from the Himatangi Surf Life Saving Club.
Police Search Coordinator Sergeant Andy Brooke said: “I would like to thank everyone that has helped in the search for Jarrett. Police extend their thoughts and condolences to Jarrett’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
The death has been referred to the coroner.
News from NZ Police – January 5
A swimmer disappeared at Himatangi Beach this afternoon. He was a 27 year-old Feilding man who was swimming with his partner and friends when he got out of his depth and drifted away from the group. A search has been underway and has been supported by surf live savers from Himatangi, Foxton and Kapiti, two vessels from Manawatu Coast Guard, the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter and Heli Pro.
Police continued searching until dark. Four wheel drive vehicles will continue to search at each tide change throughout the night. Officers from the Police Dive Squad are scheduled to arrive tomorrow to take part in the search.
Police are in the process of notifying the man’s family. Until that notification has been completed no further information about the man will be disclosed.
