Danny Mulheron’s horror comedy sells for release in North America and Germany

News from NZFC
Wellington horror comedy Fresh Meat directed by Danny Mulheron is to be released in North America and Germany this year. It has been sold to Tribeca Film for North America and to Capelight for Germany.

UK distribution has also just been signed and interest is starting to peak following the film’s European market premiere in Berlin this week.

Written by Briar Grace-Smith (Fish Skin Suit, The Strength of Water) and produced by Dave Gibson, Fresh Meat stars Temuera Morrison as the head of a Churton Park family of middle-class cannibals unwittingly taken hostage by the Tan brothers’ gang after a botched prison break. Academic Hemi Crane (Morrison) and his wife Margaret (Nicola Kawana), along with their teenage children Glenn and Rina don’t seem to pose much of a threat to Ritchie and Paulie Tan, their fumbling accomplice Johnny and the smoking hot Gigi (Kate Elliott). Or do they?

Director Danny Mulheron has worked in a variety of roles and mediums, including a stint with Peter Jackson in LA working on the sixth and final instalment of A Nightmare on Elm Street (Dream Lover) and co-writing Meet The Feebles (in which Mulheron also starred, as the prima donna hippo Heidi). This is his debut feature film. Wellington producer Dave Gibson has a big list of credits including The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, Panic at Rock Island, Aftershock, and Eruption.

Fresh Meat was financed by the New Zealand Film Commission. Its sales arm NZ Film is handling world sales.
