Man charged with attempted murder after woman assaulted on Kenepuru walkway

At about 9am this morning, a 54 year old woman was assaulted as she was walking along the Kenepuru walkway between the Porirua Railway Station and Kenepuru Drive behind the Mill Liquorsave. A man approached her from behind and subjected her to a prolonged and serious assault.
A 23 year old man was arrested by police at the scene and will be appearing at the Porirua District Court on Monday morning charged with attempted murder.
It appears the assault was random and unprovoked.
Police are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed this assault or been in the vicinity around the time it happened.
