Petone woman with cricket bat scares off masked robber with pistol

News from NZ Police
A man with a black bandana across his face entered a Petone dairy yesterday afternoon with a pistol and demanded cash from the lone female shop assistant.

The shop assistant removed the cash from the till and ran with the money into a back room where she fetched a cricket bat. The offender then ran from the dairy.

The man was wearing a light grey hoodie and black pants. He had a dark coloured backpack with a red design on the front.

Detective Sergeant Christiaan Barnard of the Hutt Valley CIB said, “Police want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity on Hutt Road or Richmond Street around 2.30pm on Tuesday.”

Anyone with information should contact the Hutt Valley Police on (04) 560 2600.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
