Wellington has scored an early year economic win with Contact Centres Australia (CAA) opening their first New Zealand contact centre in the CBD early in March.
The centre is forecast to create approximately 100 local jobs by July 2013 and the company anticipates they will be able to employ up to 200 staff from across the Wellington region within two year.
CCA is a well respected operator in the Australian market with a track-record as a good employer. They employ 550 staff in Sydney servicing a range of Australian public and private sector clients, with a focus on NGOs.
Contact Centres Australia, which will operate here as Contact Centres New Zealand Ltd, made the decision to locate in Wellington after several interactions with regional economic development agency, Grow Wellington.
Grow Wellington highlighted the region’s competitive advantages over other Australasian locations, a list which included its vibrant culture of collaboration, strong telecommunications infrastructure and high quality workforce.
“CCA dedicated many months to deciding the best option for opening our first New Zealand call centre. With the assistance of Grow Wellington we decided the capital was our preferred option,” says Benjamin Crabbe, Contact Centres New Zealand Director.

The second announcement in a week of new companies setting up in Wellington is further proof that the city and its environs are an increasingly attractive base for business, says Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce, Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley.
“The decision by Contact Centres Australia to choose the Wellington CBD to open their first New Zealand contact centre, creating about 100 local jobs by July and up to 200 within two years, is excellent news.
“Coupled with last week’s announcement by international Swedish telecommunications company Ericcson that it is to invest $15 million in a new cable ducting factory in Porirua, with the creation of 30 local jobs, the year has been kicked off in an extremely positive way.
“This is a further reflection of the region’s ability to attract new and exciting businesses and that we have a lot to offer down here.
“I have no doubt that in the case of Contact Centres, it was the city’s strong telecommunications infrastructure, high-quality workforce, and overall business-friendly environment that made their choice easy.
