Nelson woman charged with attempted murder; no charges yet after man’s death

A 59 year old woman has today been charged with attempted murder in relation to an incident in Nelson on Sunday in which a 30 year old woman suffered knife wounds. The arrested woman has been remanded in custody for psychiatric assessment under Section 38 of the Mental Health Compulsory Assessment and Treatment Act 1992.

She has been granted name suppression and is due to appear in court on 18 March.

The victim is in a stable condition in Nelson Hospital.

Police inquiries are continuing in relation to the death of a 57 year old man at a St Ann Street address and no charges have yet been laid in relation to that death.

Nelson Bays Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a man after a domestic incident in Nelson this morning. Police were called to an address in the city about 10.45am. The man was found to have received stab wounds. He was taken to Nelson Hospital but died this afternoon.

A woman who had also received stab wounds remains in Nelson Hospital in a stable condition.

One person is in police custody and will appear in the Nelson District Court on Monday facing charges in relation to the incident.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the matter.

Earlier Police report
Two people are in Nelson Hospital following an incident at a Nelson address this morning in which they both received knife wounds. Police were called to the address about 10.45am.

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident and a woman has superficial wounds.

A police investigation is under way to establish what occurred.
