Needles and medicines found in Hutt River – warning to report medical waste

News from NZ Police
The public is being asked to contact Hutt City Council if medical waste is found on the banks of the Hutt River or the Wellington Harbour coastline.

Discarded needles, liquid medicines and expired tablets were recovered from the Hutt River near Ewen Bridge on Friday.

Hutt City Environmental Investigation Officer Alan Pope says there is a possibility some of the waste may have been washed further downstream and into the harbour.

Anyone finding any medical waste should avoid contact with the material and get in touch with the Hutt City Council Environmental Investigation Officer 04 570 6890.
