End of an era: Capital Times to close
Wellington.Scoop
Publisher Alison Franks has announced that she is to close her free weekly newspaper Capital Times.
She has confirmed that the last issue will be published on April 10.
“It’s just time,” she is quoted as saying in the DomPost, which reports that financial pressure and the changing face of the printed press industry were also issues.
And on Facebook: “By now you may have heard rumours of Capital Times coming to an end. We are indeed wrapping up publication after another three issues. Thanks to all the wonderful support and loyal readers that we’ve had over the years.”
“Very sad news and will mean that Fairfax will have almost total control over Wellington news,” wrote Iona Pannett on Twitter.
“You will be missed,” tweeted Mary Wareham of Oriental Bay.
Capital Times has been published in Wellington for 38 years.

How sad, Capital Times will be missed, as always a fair two-way cover on controversial subjects.
And of course Paddy Lewis, music and theatre reviews and Wellyword…..not to mention Letters to the Editor and events around the city.
